History of Radiology in Mauritius
The history of clinical radiology can be traced back to Dr. Jules Maurice CURE in 1922 using the first X-Ray machine in the private sector.
- 1922Introduction X-Ray machineThe history of Radiology in Mauritius first started with the introduction of an X-Ray machine in the private sector in 1922. The well known Dr Jules Maurice CURE was the first medical practitioner to use the X-Ray machine for medical purposes.
- 1927Beginning of X-Ray DepartmentDr DUPRE was the first qualified radiologist who started the X-Ray department at Victoria Hospital.
- 1928Screening of PatientsDr Georges LECLEZIO introduced an X-Ray machine to screen patients.
- 1950Modern X-Ray Machine at Victoria HospitalModern X-Ray machine installed at Victoria Hospital. He had modernised the X-ray departments of Victoria and Civil hospitals. He had drafted the documents and also chosen the equipments for SSRNH. In the immediate post independence period with limited resources he was able to built the Radiotherapy Unit at Victoria Hospital - radiotherapy and radiology being the same unit at that time.
